Theatre Roles We're Recruiting For 

  • Scrub nurse. Instrument and sterile field work across general, ortho, cardiothoracic, neuro, gynae, urology, ENT, ophthalmic, maxillofacial, plastics and robotic lists. 

  • Anaesthetic nurse. Induction, airway assistance, monitoring and drug checks alongside the anaesthetist. 

  • Recovery and PACU nurse. Post-anaesthetic care, observations, pain management and safe handover to the ward. 

  • Floor and circulating nurse. The nurse who keeps the theatre running: counts, stock, positioning, specimens and the runner work no list survives without. 

  • CSSD and sterile services. Decontamination, packing, autoclave and tray assembly. 

  • Day surgery, endoscopy and cath lab. Shorter lists, predictable hours, often a better fit around family commitments. 

  • Theatre unit managers and shift leaders. List coordination, staffing and stock control for units short on senior cover.

  • Anaesthetics: locum anaesthetists and anaesthetic medical officers in private hospitals, government facilities and day theatres. 

  • General surgery: elective lists, trauma call and outpatient surgical clinics. 

  • Orthopaedic surgery: trauma units, elective lists and outpatient orthopaedic clinics. 

  • Obstetrics and gynaecology: maternity units, labour wards and gynaecology departments. 

  • Emergency medicine: emergency physicians and MBChB-qualified doctors with emergency experience, in private and government units. 

  • Internal medicine: physicians and registrars covering general medicine wards, High Dependency Units and subspecialty units.

What You Need to Register 

  • South African ID, or an international passport with an active work permit 

  • SANC number and a current annual practising certificate 

  • Police clearance certificate 

  • Proof of Hepatitis B and COVID-19 vaccination 

  • Your nursing and post-basic training certificates 

  • Proof of address, bank details and a SARS PAYE confirmation letter 

  • Two contactable references

Theatre Careers: Your Questions Answered

  • Not always. Clients ask for theatre-trained staff for scrub roles on complex lists, but floor, recovery, day surgery and CSSD placements are open to registered and enrolled nurses with relevant experience. Tell your consultant exactly what you've done and they'll match you accordingly. 

  • Yes, and many of our nurses do. You set your availability in Staffshift and take only the lists that fit around your existing roster. 

  • No. We place theatre staff in private hospital groups, government facilities, day theatres, endoscopy and cath labs, mine health services and rural district hospitals. 

  • That depends on your documents. Nurses who register with a valid SANC practising certificate, police clearance and vaccination proof in hand usually clear compliance within days.
