Cerebral Palsy Home Care Services

Specialist Home Care for People Living with Cerebral Palsy

Nursing Services of South Africa provides experienced, compassionate home-based care for children and adults living with cerebral palsy - tailored to each individual's needs, available 24 hours a day.

Understanding Cerebral Palsy Care Needs

Cerebral palsy (CP) affects movement, muscle tone, and motor skills in ways that are unique to each individual. Some people living with CP require occasional support; others need consistent skilled nursing care around the clock. There is no single care pathway, which is why a tailored, person-centred approach is essential.

At Nursing Services of South Africa, we have extensive experience placing carers and nurses with cerebral palsy patients across South Africa, from children at home with their families to adults in need of ongoing long-term support. We take the time to understand each patient's specific condition, communication needs, daily routine, and personal preferences before making any placement.

Our Cerebral Palsy Home-Based Care Team

Every carer and nurse we place with cerebral palsy patients is:

  • Carefully matched to the patient's specific needs, personality, and routine

  • Experienced in complex care and neurological conditions

  • Verified, reference-checked, and SANC-registered (where applicable)

  • Supervised by a registered nursing professional

  • Briefed thoroughly before their first shift

Where possible, we assign consistent carers to each patient to build trust, familiarity, and continuity, which is particularly important for patients with communication difficulties or high anxiety around change.

Funding Your Care

Home-based care for cerebral palsy patients may be funded through a number of sources, depending on your circumstances:

Medical Aid

Many medical aid schemes cover a portion of home nursing costs following hospitalisation or for chronic high-care needs. We can provide the documentation your scheme requires to motivate for cover.

Road Accident Fund (RAF)

If your cerebral palsy or a worsening of your condition was caused or contributed to by a road accident, you may be entitled to claim the cost of ongoing home care from the RAF. We work closely with attorneys and case managers handling RAF claims and can provide detailed care costings and records to support your claim.

Third-Party and On-Duty Claims

Where a condition has been caused or aggravated by the negligence of a third party or an employer, home care costs may be recoverable as part of a legal claim. Contact us and we will work with your legal team.

Private

For families funding care privately, we provide transparent pricing and flexible arrangements, from a few hours per day to full 24-hour care.

Working with Families

We understand that placing a carer or nurse in your home - particularly for a family member with complex needs - is a significant decision built on trust. Our approach is to involve families fully at every stage:

1. An initial needs assessment with the family and patient before any placement

2. A careful matching process based on the patient's needs, routine, and preferences

3. A trial period with close monitoring and regular feedback

4. An open-door policy — if something is not working, we address it immediately

5. A dedicated coordinator as your ongoing point of contact
